Late Effects

The Cancer Alliance is scoping what services are available in the North East and North Cumbria to support patients with late effects of cancer treatment.

At least 500,000 people in the UK are facing poor health or disability after treatment for cancer, the long term consequences of treatment include physical, emotional and social changes that can affect their quality of life and health and well-being after a diagnosis of cancer.

Effective use of the Recovery Package for example completing a HNA to identify problems, providing Treatment Summaries which include potential consequences so that they can be easily anticipated, recognised and monitored in primary care can help minimise some of the problems experienced.
